PD: Suspects attacked apartment manager in Staunton
STAUNTON – Police said two suspects accused of attacking an apartment manager last week were later arrested at a Staunton convenience store.
One of the suspects was Tasered after reportedly trying to attack a police officer.
Both incidents took place in front of a 9-year-old boy who was with the suspects, according to authorities.
The Staunton Police Department said a man and woman were at the Willow View Apartments on Baylor Street on Friday afternoon when approached by the property manager of the apartment complex. Police said the man, Gary D. Norcross, 38, of Staunton, was trespassing and told by the property manager he had to leave the premises.
However, police said Norcross and the woman, 41-year-old Carrianne L. Yancey, also of Staunton, allegedly attacked the apartment manager, both striking her several times in the face, an arrest report said.M
Warrants were obtained against the pair, and police soon located them at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 427 North Coalter Street in Staunton.
When police attempted to take Norcross into custody, he reportedly responded by trying to punch the arresting officer, according to the Staunton Police Department. He was immediately Tasered and arrested.
Norcross is charged with obstruction of justice by force, assault, trespassing, public intoxication and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Yancey is charged with assault, public intoxication and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was also served a trespassing notice that prohibits her from going onto the property of the Willow View Apartments, police said.
Both suspects are at Middle River Regional Jail.
Police said Child Protective Services took custody of the 9-year-old boy.
